The Splitting Froe allows you more precision when splitting lumber, shakes, shingles, or turning blanks. This tool is used for woodworking projects that require riveting. Examples would be chair spindles and spoons, split bow staves, or to make tinder and kindling for a wood stove.
To use, simply pound the top of the blade with a wooden mallet or maul into the end of a log, then pull back on the handle to split off a slice of the wood with the grain. The handle is graduated in size. There is a blade jam that fits in place, which prevents the froe blade from falling off of the handle.
